Because currently she sells sells seashells by the sea door like nobody’s business. If there’s a shell to be sold and it’s by the sea shore, then Mayor Saliba is the person for the job.
During the week the official opening for the so-called ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Shell Cove development, the Waterfront Shell Cove was held.
There is an awful lot to like about what is happening at Shellharbour at the minute.
We already know the area is one of the fastest growing regions in the Illawarra, but the developments which are now coming online are helping to add to an air of excitement about what that municipality has to offer.
The Shell Cove development is spectacular and once the water flows in for the marina it would have to be the best positioned damn supermarkets in the country. Period.
Yet it is more than than that.
Some of the shops and eating venues are now fully operational and the construction of a restaurant precinct starts next year.
There will also be a major hotel development with somewhere between 120-140 rooms and conference rooms.
The town centre, a joint venture between the council and developers Fraser’s Property Australia, is beautifully done and will be real asset to this region.
While Mayor Saliba’s description of Shell Cove being “the centre of the universe” may be a stretch and we assume a little tongue-in-cheek, she is certainly right when she says “the harbourfront will be the envy of other towns and cities around Australia”.
If you are interested in having a look there is a family fun day on Saturday from 10am to 2pm at the centre.
It is worth it.
This development combined with the opening of the new council building and library have been major milestones for the the Shellharbour council in recent times.
The new community facilities and library are getting plenty of use and have proven to be a welcomed asset for the communities to the south of our region.
Sally, who sells sea shells by the sea shore, certainly has a lot to smile about at the minute.
