The former home of the Dapto Bowling Club – dubbed “one of the community’s most-loved buildings” – is expected to have a new owner within weeks.

The parcel of land at 70-76 Marshall Street – which houses Dapto Bowlo’s clubhouse, its bowling greens, a large outdoor car park, futsal courts and even a single-level residential home – has generated plenty of interest since being placed on the market.
The club, which was affectionately known as “the little joint on Marshall Street”, went into administration in September last year.
Despite attempts to keep it operating, the business was deemed no longer viable and closed on July 20 – shocking many of its 900-strong membership.
The club was then placed into liquidation, before its assets went under the hammer via an online auction in August.
The now-empty shell of a clubhouse and its surrounds are being sold by agents Xavier Rahme and Frank Oliveri, from CBRE Sydney.
In their sales pitch, the agents said the property had operated as a bowlo for 70 years, “establishing itself as one of the community’s most-loved buildings”.
“Dapto Bowling Club presents investor and developer groups with a unique asset that accommodates a variety of uses [subject to council approval],” they said.
An initial round of expressions of interest closed on October 24. A second round followed, due to the significant amount of interest and number of offers received.
“We included a number of shortlisted groups into that second round,” Mr Rahme told the Mercury.
Round two, which called for best and final offers, closed on Tuesday afternoon and Mr Rahme expected to be going to contract by as early as the end of this week.
Mr Rahme said there had been more than 100 inquiries about the property and 10 offers made.
“The interest has predominantly been from Sydney-based developers, but we’ve had a few people from Wollongong and we’ve also had a few people locally, from Dapto,” he said.
“The types of people are mainly investors, owner-occupiers and hoteliers.”
