The board has essentially settled on Eddings as the man to oversee one of CA's most challenging chapters.

Eddings' promotion was foreshadowed even before chairman David Peever, prompted by a call from Cricket NSW counterpart John Knox, quit in light of The Ethics Centre's scathing independent report.

A former president of grade club North Melbourne, Eddings was appointed deputy chairman at CA's annual general meeting (AGM) then installed as interim boss when Peever resigned.

CA is obviously keen to crack on and start patching the various potholes that have been exposed since the Cape Town cheating scandal.

But the sporting organisation is also desperate to get everybody - including the six state associations - rowing in the same direction.

One of many issues highlighted by the cultural review was the dynamic between CA and its shareholders.

CA's board is adopting a consultative approach, wanting to ensure there is no repeat of the farcical scenes that resulted in Peever being unanimously re-elected then rolled within a week.

Eddings, who runs a risk-management firm, is well placed to ensure every i is dotted and t crossed.

It's believed the majority of state bigwigs are either supportive of the Victorian and/or recognise that snubbing him would create further disharmony and infighting at a time when CA urgently needs to get its affairs in order.

Several past and present players have recently conveyed to AAP how they hope the past fortnight will be a catalyst for change but also stressed a desire for urgent stability given summer has started.

George Bailey, the widely-respected veteran who was part of the played-led review that was chaired by former Test opener Rick McCosker, believes it is time to start looking to the future.

"Players are at the stage now where we just want to move on. I'm sure everyone does," Bailey said.

"So much has been said, so much has been written. Let the cricket start to do some talking.

"There's lots of good that can come out of a reset. Tim Paine and Justin Langer have spoken about that in the Australian team ... I'd imagine in many respects that Cricket Australia is doing the same."

Bailey added it was disappointing to see so much negativity about CA, noting the governing body is "doing a hell of a lot of things right".

CA's stakeholders, including the players' union and broadcasters, are also obviously keen for the uncertainty to end.

There has been speculation a white knight could be parachuted onto the board then promoted to chairman. Such a move isn't being considered by CA's board.
