Empey was released from prison in 2015 and had finished his parole. However, Victoria Police moved to place him on a serious sex offenders order and list him on the sex offenders register so he could continue to be monitored.

The day the court was going to put the order in place, November 23, Empey disappeared, taking $10,000 in cash and removing the GPS that tracked him..

"I don't think he liked the close supervision that comes as a requirement and wants to actively avoid that. That's why he's failed to attend court," Assistant Commissioner Neil Paterson told reporters on Thursday.

He bought a motorcycle in Mansfield, Victoria, paying in cash, and then sold it in Nowra a stranger on December 4. When that stranger registered the bike - a yellow 2005 Suzuki DR650 motorcycle registration GD531 - police were notified.

Detectives also found CCTV of Empey in a Nowra store. The images show him unshaven and still wearing the same clothes he fled in.

He walked with a limp, and told someone he had an accident on his bike.

Empey, who police say has bush survival skills, has prior violent convictions dating back to 1989.

The colleague he attacked was found covered in blood, with facial fractures, a partly-severed right ear, brain damage and serious genital injuries.

She lost two litres of blood in the attack. She told The Age newspaper last month she was worried it was only a matter of time before he would hurt somebody else.

"The fact he is out there somewhere makes me fear for my own life, but more than that, I am worried he will hurt somebody else," she said.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who lives in the Nowra area, or visitors travelling to the region, who may have sighted him.

Anyone who sights Empey is urged not to approach him but to contact triple zero (000) immediately.
