Therefore, an upcoming event in Wollongong will aim to investigate how to build an even more vibrant, liveable and prosperous region.
‘Illawarra Outlook’ will take place as part of the Property Council’s ‘Outlook’ series of events in 2019.
Michelle Guido, Property Council Illawarra’s regional director said a range of topics would be discussed.
These included what infrastructure is needed, if the region’s strategic planning is up to scratch, and what can be learned from other regions about how to leverage public and private sector investment to “ensure we are creating great places and communities”.
A panel of experts will discuss the trends shaping and impacting the growth of Australian cities, the region’s infrastructure needs, how strategic planning can deliver better, more connected communities and what it all means for Wollongong and the rest of the region.
Speakers at the event will include Tim Blythe, managing partner of Urbis; Philip Davies, chair, SMART Advisory Council and Australian Logistics Council partner at Deloitte; Anna Chubb, strategy director of Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation; and Gary White, chief planner at the NSW Department of Planning and Environment.
“We want to see good growth in the Illawarra and encourage a positive conversation, by working together with government and community to ensure growth benefits the community and is supported by sustainable, transparent and consistent decision making,” Ms Guido said.
“Good planning means good growth.
“The important thing is a balance – a balance between more diverse housing, new infrastructure and building more liveable communities with access to amenities and services, transport and community space across the region.”
‘Illawarra Outlook’ will take place on Friday, March 1 at Villa D'oro, Wollongong (located at 39-41 Flinders Street) from 12.30pm to 2pm.
