Perez and Arina Rodionova, who gained a wildcard into the women’s doubles event have drawn sisters and seventh seeds Latisha and Hao-Ching Chan.
High profile athletes in their native Chinese Taipei, Latisha was a doubles champion at the US Open, where she teamed up with Martina Hingis in 2017 and became world No.1.
Hao-Ching reached the doubles final at Wimbledon in 2017 with Monica Niculescu, and the US Open mixed doubles with Michael Venus.
And combined they’ve also proved a formidable force, teaming up to win the Hobart International, one of the lead-up tournaments to the Australian Open.
Barty will now take on Wang in round two of the singles on Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday, after Perez went down to the Chinese world No.65 6-4, 6-0 on Monday.
Even in defeat, the Australian Open performance is a huge boost for Perez on the world tour, picking up a $75,000 cheque in a bid to push towards the top 100 in her second year as a professional.
While Australian tennis fans are backing Barty to be a genuine contender to win the title, the hero of the Fed Cup tie against the Netherlands in Wollongong last year is keeping her focus on beating Wang.
‘‘I want to make sure for myself I prepare well so I can come out here and play with freedom and hopefully win a few matches,’’ she said.
‘‘There’s a very very long way to go. ‘‘I’ll think ’why not me’ on Wednesday and then we’ll go from there.’’
Perez and Rodionova will take on the Chan sisters on Thursday at a time schedule to be determined on Wednesday afternoon.
