Friday's series-decider at the MCG represents the last chance for Aaron Finch to turn around what has been a disastrous summer with the bat.

Dumped from Australia's Test squad, the limited-overs captain has carried his poor form into the ODI series which stands tied at 1-1.

Twin dismissals to swing king Bhuvneshwar Kumar have left Finch with just 12 runs from two innings, while opening partner Alex Carey (24 and 18) has also struggled to navigate the first 10 overs.

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan said the visiting quicks had scouted Finch carefully throughout the summer and had been able to exploit his weaknesses.

"Bhuvi is very experienced as well as (Mohammed) Shami. That's why in the first 10 overs we have been dominating," Dhawan said on Thursday.

"We respect that Finch is a great player ... we make sure our guard is up always.

"The boys must have seen his weakness and they are implementing their plans quite nicely. They're not giving him singles that easily or even boundary options.

"Once you're creating that pressure to a batsman, especially in limited-overs, that batsman is going to do something extra or take more risk to rotate the strike or to score more runs. That's where we're having the opportunity."

Finch said he had used a couple of days off between games to review footage of successful knocks in the hopes of recreating that form.

"Maybe I've been too tentative in the last couple of games, letting a bit of pressure build up," he said.

"It's always a fine balance between attack and hanging in there and waiting for the right time to be aggressive and take on the game.

"I still feel that I'm a very good player ... 13 international hundreds suggests that I do know what's required."

Australia have used four different ODI opening partnerships during David Warner's suspension.

Chris Lynn, Travis Head and D'Arcy Short have also played at the top of the order but all have been dumped for the series against India.

Virat Kohli's side are looking to continue what has been their most successful visit to Australia, having claimed an historic 2-1 Test series victory and split the T20 honours.

"It will mean a lot to us ... if we win tomorrow, it is going to be a big achievement for us," Dhawan said.
