Emergency services personnel were called to rocks near the Bass Point Gravel Loader just after 9am on Wednesday.
NSW Ambulance officers extricated the 70-year-old man, who was still unconscious.
He was transported to Wollongong Hospital.
An ambulance spokesperson said the man was not in the water, but found unconscious on the rocks.
He was wet from waves crashing onto him but he was not washed onto the rocks.
The man is thought to have been at the location during the night and suffered hypothermia.
