The blow comes less than a fortnight after Davkovski helped lead the Rangers to a Fraternity Club Cup title in the pre-season.
It is understood the decision was motivated by a dispute over the future direction of the club.
"I have left the club on good terms and I wish them all the best," Davkovski said.
"I left the club in a better position than when I got there."
Co-coach Robert Jonovski will take the reigns full time.
Davkovski and Jonovski began their coaching stint at Corrimal in 2018.
Rangers president Claude Guido admitted Davkovski's decision came as a shock, but backed Jonovski to fill the role for the remainder of the campaign.
"It was amicable and there is no qualms there at all but we are with Rob 100% now," he said.
A double from Bradley Acev propelled Port past the Rangers at Memorial Park on Sunday.
Acev had his first after just two minutes in before pouncing on a loose ball to double the advantage in the 58th minute.
An own goal from Luke Boersma gave the Rangers hope of staging a fightback but it proved to be too little, too late.
Port will be without Sandy Lowcock next week after the striker was sent off in the 90th minute when he received his second yellow card.
Rangers play Bulli on Wednesday night.
