Daniel Merrett, also known as Daniel Clulow, was described as a "loyal" friend by his close mate, Joe Louis, who has set up a Go Fund Me page to help Daniel's family pay for his funeral.

"Daniel was a man of his word...at the drop of a hat he was happy to help anyone in need in anyway," Mr Louis wrote.

"Friend or family, he had your back."

Mr Louis also touched on Daniel's ongoing battle with his physical health and the resolve he had to keep fighting.

"Struggling through life with an illness that may have claimed others long ago, he still always managed to make the best of the worst and [in] very serious situations, [was] always smiling and making people laugh," he said.

"Although at times he was serious, at the same time he could be embracing and understanding."

Mr Louis urged those who could spare "even the smallest of contributions" to donate money to help his partner organise and pay for his funeral.

"I always promised Daniel I'd have his back no matter what and when the inevitable were to happen I'd help make sure [his family] would be okay," he said.

As of Sunday lunchtime, the page had raised $600 towards a goal of $2000.

Kyarlee Rose, who identified herself as Daniel's sister, left her own tribute to her brother in the page's comments, saying heaven had found "another angel".

"I never ever thought this would happened and I miss you so much already." she wrote.

"You will always be in my heart, I love you to the moon and back."
