Joshua Douglas Edwards, 24, of Towradgi, appeared at bail court charged with breaching the conditions of an apprehended violence order against his partner
According to the police facts, officers on patrol at Bulli station at 4.30pm on Saturday saw Edwards walking through the car park with his partner, heading to the station platforms.
Police observed the pair for two minutes before approaching Edwards and advising him that he had breached his AVO, which forbids him from having anything but court-ordered contact with his partner.
"I only walked her to the train station," the police facts allege Edwards responded when taken into custody.
At Wollongong Bail Court police prosecutor Amelia Wall opposed bail for Edwards, citing there were fears for the safety of the community and the risk he would commit further serious offences.
Sergeant Wall pointed to Edwards' lengthy criminal history and that he has just been released from jail in April after serving time for offences committed against the same alleged victim in this matter.
His Legal Aid solicitor said Edwards was a diagnosed schizophrenic and was on medication.
He was studying for a forklift driver's licence with a view to getting work at Port Botany.
In refusing bail the registrar noted that, while this breach was minor, Edwards had broken the conditions of the AVO on several previous occasions and she was unconvinced he would abide by it if released on bail.
He was refused bail and will return to Wollongong Local Court on May 27.
