Entries are starting to come in our Take Wollongong to the World Logo Competition, which is giving people a chance at designing the logo which may be used for the 2022 2022 UCI Road World Cycling Championships which will be held in Wollongong.
The competition is a unique collaboration between the Illawarra Mercury, Cycling Australia and Destination Wollongong. There have been a number of outstanding entries including the eye-catching design by Edwina, a graphic artist from Bundanoon, who entered after hearing about the competition on ABC Radio.
"I heard Nick Rheinberger talk about it, found the competition on the Mercury and thought I'll have a go at that," she said.
"I looked at the other logos from other years and I thought I could do better than that. I thought about bringing the road bike and beach theme together, which sort of said Wollongong to me.
"With the wave theme I could use the UCI colours and the colours are quite often the colours you see in the waves when they are hit by the sun."
Edwina is right in the race to win the major prize. the event organising committee will chose the winning entry, which may then be considered as the event logo.
The major prize feature a special VIP package to the championships from Cycling Australia and a special tourism package from Destination Wollongong.
There wlil also be a special prize for the winning school entry including a full day learning skills experience for up to seven classes and international cyclists to come and speak at a school assembly. Entries in the competition are open until Friday, June 28.
