Labor has suggested it might consider backing more of the federal government's proposed tax cuts if it brings forward tax relief that wasn't due to kick in for another three years.

But the opposition says it has been given no indication that the coalition is interested in tinkering with its tax plan.
Shadow treasurer Jim Chalmers has canvassed the potential compromise as Labor continues to mull whether to back the government's promised three-stage package in full.
The opposition already supports the first stage of the government's plans, which will provide more tax relief for low and middle-income earners from this year.
But it has been unsure about the following two stages of the package, which will include more tax cuts in 2022 and a flattening of the tax rates schedule by mid-2024.
Dr Chalmers says revising the timing of the plan might help get Labor on board.
"If they came to us and said they wanted to have a different timing then I would discuss that with my colleagues," he told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age on Friday.
"We would consider any proposal to get the economy moving again if it was responsible and if it was affordable and if it prioritises people who are more likely to spend in this floundering economy."
Despite that, Labor leader Anthony Albanese says the coalition has made no signs it would be interested in changing its plans.
"We haven't seen any proposals beyond that which the government has said they would do," he told reporters in Sydney.
Bringing forward the second round of tax cuts would add more spending power to the economy after new figures this week showed grew at its weakest pace in almost a decade in the year to March.
The second round of cuts would increase the top threshold of the 19 per cent tax bracket from $41,000 to $45,000 and increase a low-income tax offset from $645 to $700.
But Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said on Wednesday he isn't considering bringing some parts of the package forward.
The coalition has also ruled up breaking up the legislation, which will come before parliament next month.
The tax cuts should have a clear run in the lower house, where Prime Minister Scott Morrison is set to govern with 77 seats in the 151-seat parliament.
But the government risks facing resistance in the Senate, where it will need the support of crossbenchers or Labor to pass laws.
