Tony Gardiner and Chris Berghuis fished with Greg Barea last weekend with a plan on firstly chasing a feed of gemfish and blue eye, then have a look at what else they could raise out there.

After finding some good-sized gemmies and trevalla they found a nice piece of floating structure which was holding some solid dolphin fish at a bit over the metre mark in length.
A few dollies in the ice box, so the lures went in for a troll to see what else they could raise when the reel started screaming off. The rod was quickly handed to Chris and he was on to his first striped marlin and in mid-June mind you.
Forty-five minutes later they had the 100 kilo plus marlin alongside and a few quick photos later, it was released to fight another day - great work to all involved.

A press release from DPI/Fisheries tagging program shows where a mako shark tagged and released by Kevin Ward on board Wollongong sportfishing boat Greyhounder on October 9, 2010, has recently been reported as recaptured.
The mako was recaptured nearly five years later off the coast of Massau Island, Papua New Guinea, where it was commercially captured by a longliner and unfortunately no length or weight was recorded.
The shark spent 1818 days at liberty and travelled an estimated straight line distance of 2061 nautical miles.
If you do happen to catch a tagged fish, be sure to report it online by using the online recapture form at
