Police said the 18-year-old had parked in Standen Lane alongside the IGA supermarket at 4.45pm to buy some groceries.
After returning to her car, she was approached by two men who asked for a lift to the train station just a kilometre away.
Once they got in and she started driving, the teen's suspicions were raised when the men gave her directions to head in a different direction to the station.
As they drove along Camira Avenue - two kilometres from the station - one of the men pulled out a large knife and told her to get out of the car.
She pulled over and left the car while the men drove off, turning towards Fern Street.
Police were called and an alert issued to be on the lookout for the car, a blue Mitsubishi with peeling paint on the bonnet and a registration number of BI40ZF.
The car was spotted by police in Nowra an hour later and there was a short pursuit southbound on the Princes Highway before it was called off.
The car was seen again a short time later heading north along the highway at Bomaderry.
People who may have seen the car should call Triple Zero or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
