Seascape Café on Foreshore Road, ceased trading on June 17.
Café operator Cheryl Leslie said on Seascape's Facebook page that "I have done this for personal reasons but of course if things were different I would still love to be trading".
A NSW Ports said the premise would likely reopen as another cafe.
"NSW Ports has since been contacted by several interested parties and we are currently reviewing our options for use of the café space," she said.
"The cafe has had great support from the local community.
"NSW Ports see plenty of potential for the café space to service the community into the future."
Ms Leslie said she had made great friendships and met some amazing people along the way after nine years in business.
"When I opened Seascape my wish was to serve everyone and make them feel welcome, serve fresh food and give people an escape by the sea," she said.
"I only hope I achieved this because you all made me feel very welcome. Thank you and I wish you all the best."
Customers and supporters took to Facebook to wish the business owner well and to tell of their disappointment at the closure.
Lynee Doering said went to the cafe nine years ago and had been frequenting it ever since.
"Nine years ago we went for our daily walk and to our surprise we saw that a cafe had opened near the harbour," she said. "Wow were we excited. Ever since we have been frequenting your cafe.
"Cheryl, you have come to have known our children and grandchildren and were genuinely interested in our little family.
"Thank you for great customer service and your friendship. Wishing you all the best for the future."
Alison Cambridge said "so sad to see you close, but you need to do what you need to do for yourself and your family."
"Thank you for always having wonderful food and great coffee! Wishing you and all the staff the best for future adventures," she said.
Lydia Tanasovska said "it was a beautiful cafe, you and your staff will be missed."
