Game fishing was very quiet, far too quiet for some and guys blamed the full moon phase.
Up off Sydney and Sydney south it was much the same with crews all commenting it was as though someone had turned the feeding switch to the off position and hid the bait fish menu.
No reports at all if any boats headed wide or if they did, no capture reports or sea surface temperature indications were circulated around.
More off our waters, the moon phase did not deter the snapper bite and most of the reds caught were in exceptionally fat condition.
This was the same whether they came from inshore or out over deeper than the normal recognised depths.
Some of the inshore reds were solid bruisers from very shallow water depth with the late arvo sessions proving far better than morning or throughout the day.
Some guys anchored up and attracted the fish with a steady berley trail whereas the fish from the deep were caught drifting over bait balls and mainly came from fishing 150 to 180mm plastics.
There were plenty of gummy sharks about last weekend with one local boat getting seven in a row whilst on the pick chasing reds and all the fish were over the 120mm mark - excellent size for the table.
There were plenty of good flatties about too over the usual sand drifts with the deeper drifts over the 25 to 30 metre depth marks producing the better fish.
The rumour mill was rife over the weekend with talk of mulloway with a couple of prominent beaches having some pretty big scales left at their car parks.
No sizes or weights have been reported which is not unusual with these fish as they are few and far between to attract competition.
There have also been plenty of bream, salmon and tailor getting along most of our beaches and again, flicking pillies or chromed slugs in the early morning and late twilight sessions were the go.
