Protesters have been active at the site recently, concerned over the removal of a number of trees around the church.

In a teary video uploaded to Facebook the protester, believed to be Evan Christen, is filmed as he climbs into the tree.

"I can't stand anymore of these trees coming down," the protester said in the video.

"I've never done anything illegal in my life... I'm sorry."

The voice of a worker can then be held yelling out, trying to stop the protester from going onto the property.

The protester can then be heard yelling out from the top of the tree, "Please stop, Father, have mercy... where's your compassion?"

Officer in charge of Bay and Basin Area, Chief Inspector Susan Charman-Horton said the man decided to climb into a tree where branches would be removed throughout the day.

"There became a great risk because he was putting himself in position where he may be harmed, both being within the tree and around where equipment is," Chief Inspector Charman-Horton said.

"It was really important for us to make sure he was safe because that's what our role is.

"Basically after having a decent communication... he made a decision to come down out of the tree, he was not injured, he was not hurt.

"It was great that he worked with us and did come out of the tree but he had been advised that he would be looking at legal action for trespassing."

She said while we're all able to be protest, if you do you should be mindful about not breaking any laws.

"We're all able to be involved in protests," she said.

"It's certainly better than if anyone considers having a protest they're quite mindful about not breaking laws, not causing lack of access by other people who are doing things around them.

"Because if they begin to impose impacts on others, it can cause greater problems."
