One of two southbound lanes was closed while an extensive clean-up took place just past Cawleys Road.
Southbound motorists just past Cawleys Rd experienced 'significant' and lengthy delays after the garbage caught alight just before 3pm.
Crews are on scene removing the truck and cleaning up the debris on the road.
Motorists should continue to allow extra travel time as heavy traffic slowly eases.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokeswoman said the driver dumped the garbage onto the motorway and side of the road after seeing smoke come from the truck.
This has caused a small grass fire in the area.
The Rural Fire Service were called to extinguish the grass fire and garbage.
The driver was not injured.
