Jess Milne and Nick Bolton won the inaugural Short + Sweet Illawarra film competition in September, for their short film The Road to Vagator.
The film was shot while on their honeymoon.
Winning Short+Sweet Illawarra also meant that The Road to Vagator automatically qualified for the global finals of the Short+Sweet franchise, at Short+Sweet Hollywood in late October.
The couple headed to the US for the screening, where Bolton won Best International Actor at the gala event at the Marilyn Theatre on Santa Monica Boulevard.
As part of his prize, he won a year's membership to global acting marketplace Casting Networks, a licence to scriptwriting program Final Draft, and a meet and greet with casting executives at NBC Universal.
"I made the film with my wife Jess Milne on our honeymoon... It was intended as a fun creative exercise, an artistic document of our honeymoon, and a memoir to my Mum," Bolton said.
"We never imagined it would be screened, and win, in India, Hong Kong, America, England, Cyprus, Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle and Dubai.
"To now win Best Actor really gives me such confidence to pursue more acting."
A screening of The Road to Vagator, along with their new rock documentary Off the Leash in Chiang Mai will take place at the Heritage Hotel, Bulli on Saturday, November 30 at 12.30pm.
Tickets are free, but patrons are required to register at the https://off-the-leash-bulli.eventbrite.com.au website.
