The Australians haven't lost a Test since 1988 at the imposing Brisbane venue but will be tested by a talented Pakistan side when they meet on Thursday.

India top the new World Test Championship (WTC) standings with a perfect 300 points from six Tests, 244 ahead of Australia in fourth after their 2-2 Ashes draw.

World No.7 Pakistan, yet to play a Test during the WTC window, will play twice against Australia, with 60 points available from both before New Zealand visit for three Tests to round out the summer.

Australia's final three series of the championship are away to Bangladesh (two Tests), at home against India (four) and away to South Africa before a final between the top two Test nations in mid-2021.

Chasing runs from a new-look top six - with only Travis Head in the top order from last season's corresponding Test - Paine has challenged his men to find consistency with a fresh long-term goal in mind.

"Our squad and our team have got our eyes set firmly on that Test final in June 2021 - that's one of our team's goals," he said.

"That just adds to the importance of every Test match; for us to be playing consistent cricket, both home and away and in all types of conditions is something that we're certainly striving for.

"This is a new group, a new Australian team trying to create our own history and ... I think there's 120 points up for grabs in two Test matches that go to that table so this series is a really significant one for us," Paine said.
