With three regular rounds remaining in the Cricket Illawarra season, Balgownie have now leap-frogged Keira into sixth spot on the ladder.
University captain Mitch Hearn won the toss and elected to bat first.
Balgownie's Jason Bunyan was on fire early - prizing out the wickets of Liam Pierlot, Ryan Smyth and Hearn - as Uni slumped to 3/15. Andrew Page and James Chappell then also fell for ducks and the scoreboard read 5/18.
Vijay Karthik and Mitch Calder had a 13-run stand before Calder was dismissed by Luke McGregor.
Uni's lower order offered some support to Karthik, who was the last man dismissed for 40, but the home side was bundled out for 61 in 27.3 overs. McGregor finished with 5/24 off 6.3 overs.
In reply, Corbin Brown fell early for eight but Balgownie's top order offered resistance. Viraj Keer and Rob Fisher took the score to 33 before Fisher was run out.
Keer fell soon after for 18 - and Jaymee Dillon was trapped lbw for a duck as the scoreboard read 4/44.
But, again, it was Luke McGregor who stood up with a run-a-ball 21 to get his side to a five-wicket win.
Elsewhere, Helensburgh recorded an outright win over Port Kembla while Northern Districts, Wollongong and Wests all secured wins on first innings.
Sunday's Twenty20 grand final between Northern Districts and University was abandoned due to rain.
Both teams have agreed to replay the match at a date to be advised.
