But exactly when that closure - or closures - will take place is still up in the air.
In July last year Transport for NSW revealed plans to close Lawrence Hargrave Drive at Stanwell Park so that work to reduce the risk of landslips could be carried out.
The initial plan was for two four-week closures - one in February-March 2020 and another in May-June.
The news sparked a backlash from residents in the area, who would see their travel times to and from work greatly increased.
Stanwell Park business felt the closure would ruin them and Bald Hill hang gliders would also be hit hard by the plans.
Transport for NSW took a step back and, after further public consultation, came up with four closure options - two of which would see the road open at some stages.
The trade-off for the partial re-opening of the road is extending the time it would take to carry out the work.
While no official start date has been set, all four options would see the work take place during winter, which means June would be the earliest work would commence.
The public was asked for feedback on their preferred option and Transport for NSW was deluged with responses, according to a departmental spokeswoman.
"Transport for NSW received more than 700 submissions regarding potential closure options for Lawrence Hargrave Drive to allow essential maintenance to be carried out," the spokeswoman said.
"Transport for NSW thanks the community for their ongoing patience and will keep them updated as plans progress."
The Transport for NSW spokeswoman said northern suburbs residents would find out in the coming months for how long Lawrence Hargrave Drive would be closed.
"A submissions report will now be prepared and is expected to be released along with the preferred option before May 2020," the spokeswoman said.
