Barrack Heights' Shaye Tallis, aged 16, died when he collided with a car while crossing at the traffic lights on Wattle Road, near Benson Avenue, Shellharbour City Centre on Tuesday evening.
Paramedics treated Shaye for head and chest injuries, before he was flown to Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, in a critical condition, where he later died.
Fred Tallis said he started the GoFundMe page, which has raised almost $3000 so far, so he can honour his son who was "tragically taken".
"[I want to] lay my son to rest and to let his soul join the other angels who are waiting with open arms," he said.
"My angel warrior who was tragically taken away under circumstances beyond our control.
"All I'm asking is to remember him as the person, friend, relative and the character he was. [He] always will be in our hearts and memories. Forever and always in my heart."
He signed off "Dad, Phoenix, Khyane [and] Harley".
Friends of the teen and strangers have donated to the memorial fund.
Mr Tallis told the Mercury his son was very well-known in the community.
"He was a very outgoing, loveable kid who never caused any trouble within the house or out on the streets," he said.
"He was just hitting his senior years of high school and I told him how proud I was that he went that far.
"He had so much potential ahead of him."
The Year 11 student enjoyed science and art at Warilla High School.
"I'll miss him like I can't explain. So will his siblings," Mr Tallis said. "But he is never going to be forgotten, that's for sure."
Police crash investigators will determine the sequence of events that lead up to the collision.
Investigators will assess the phasing of the traffic lights to determine who had right of way.
The driver has not been charged.
