As far as being thrown in the deep end, Sorridere is diving headlong into a flooded Mullet Creek.
But while the three-year-old filly might be jumping at triple-figure odds in Friday's Kembla Grange Classic, it's what comes next which excites trainer Kerry Parker.
Parker found the temptation too great when Sorridere stuck powerfully to her task over to salute by 2.5 lengths over 1400m 10 days ago.
So he took an entry ticket without really expecting to make the field. By Wednesday, it was confirmed she would run, to jump from gate four with Jay Ford aboard.
"She's going to want a bit further, but she's also a really honest filly," Parker said.
"I had her in over 2000m at Moruya on Monday if she didn't make the field and with this quality, they might be a bit sharp for her over a mile. If she can keep improving we might look at the Adrian Knox in a few weeks.
"She had the race run to suit the other day and the ($1.14) favourite (Quintessa) had too much to do late, but it's just great to have a local in the (Classic) field."
With a trio of Gai Waterhouse-Adrian Bott runners, including Shout The Bar and Pierro Rose likely trying to cross from wide barriers, Parker expects Sorridere to settle in behind them.
"You'd think there'd be some genuine speed there," he said.
"She'll put herself in the race and be pretty handy."
Favourite Missile Mantra - fifth behind Probabeel in the Group 1 Surround Stakes last start - and Godolphin's Spring Stakes winner Asiago will be looking to emerge from the ruck in the straight, with Chris Waller's Subpoenaed to have the last shot at them, as she did with a blistering turn of foot to all but win a $125,000 Benchmark 78 at Rosehill.
But Newcastle trainer Kris Lees is confident his Australian Bloodstock filly Game Of Thorns can overcome an awkward draw and turn the tables on Asiago, who she ran second behind in the Spring Stakes.
Game Of Thorns was impressive first-up snatching victory over 1400m in a Benchmark 64 last month, before the sharp rise to return to black-type racing.
"I was surprised by how well she reacted over the shorter course," Lees said.
"It was pleasing to see and she's come on from that.
"It is a big jump in grade but she is stakes-placed already so she will run well.
"The Australian Oaks is the target and she is bred to get over that sort of trip but fillies you just don't know where they might plateau distance wise."
