Accordingly, DPI/Fisheries FADs team have advised the FADs network can still do its job by providing open ocean structure for pelagic species including spectacular dolphinfish, aka dollies or mahi mahi.
In some excellent news for game fishers, they have confirmed they will hold off for as long as possible on the normal annual end of season FAD removal and maintenance schedule. This means that FADs from Port Stephens south to Eden won't be removed for maintenance until the middle of May and the North Coast FADs will stay in the water until mid-June.
Work in progress continues for next FADs season (which usually starts around September-November) so stay tuned for updates on the 2020-2021 FADs deployment plans.
