While everyone waits for the grassroots game to return, Football Federation Australia is ramping up their bid to host the next FIFA Women's World Cup.
More than 30 FIFA board members will meet on June 25 to decide where the 2023 Women's World Cup will take place. In a video address, FFA chief executive officer James Johnson said FFA was pushing hard to host the tournament in Australia and New Zealand.
"In the next couple of weeks, FIFA will issue a report. It's going to be published and the report will score our bid. On June 25, we will know our fate," Johnson said.
"This would be a transformational event... [and] it would make football the sport of choice for women and girls in Australia and New Zealand, both on and off the field."
