The Titans, firmly on the back foot after an error-riddled first half, kept the Warriors scoreless after the break to claim a 16-12 victory over the exiled New Zealand club.

The home team did not hit the front until the 75th minute when second-gamer Beau Fermor scored his first NRL try on the end of a Jamal Fogarty grubber.

The win is the Titans' third of the season and the first at their home ground since beating Newcastle in round six last year.

The Warriors will be kicking themselves for not finishing off the game in a first half where they had the Titans on the ropes.

Tries to Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Ken Maumalo had the visitors up 12-0 inside 10 minutes.

It took Gold Coast 15 minutes to complete their first set of the match, but they were on the scoreboard soon after when veteran winger Anthony Don scored.

Jack Hetherington thought he had scored his first NRL try in the 31st minute after pouncing on a loose Bryce Cartwright pass but the bunker ruled the on-loan Penrith backrower had denied Titans' halfback Fogarty a chance to regather the ball.

That reprieve meant, despite a completion rate of just 47 per cent and 10 errors, the Titans trailed by just six points at the break.

And they took full advantage with a much-improved second half, reducing the margin to just two soon after the break when some Tyrone Peachey magic allowed Sam Stone to score.

The teams traded blows for the remainder of the half with the Titans losing and Keegan Hipgrave (shoulder), and five-eighth Ash Taylor (concussion) after a big shot by Warriors centre Patrick Herbert.

Despite the absences, Fermor's late four-pointer was enough to secure the Titans a hard-fought victory.

"It was just a great, determined win," Titans coach Justin Holbrook said.

"To come away with a win, I'm just really happy and I think the determination from obviously Peach to keep that ball in play for a try and for Beau to chase that kick so hard and be first to get there was how we won the game tonight.

"We're a bit of a patched up side at the moment, back-rowers playing centres and things like that, but I'm really happy with the way we got on with it."

Warriors coach Todd Payten was disappointed his team lost their way after their strong start.

"For large parts of it we did show some defensive resolve, which, you know, a month ago, we would have leaked plenty of points," Payten said.

"I'm pleased with the improvements we've made there, particularly with our defensive structures but, at the end of the day, we lost the game on some big plays which we should have made."

The Titans will face Melbourne at Sunshine Coast Stadium next Friday while the Warriors are back to their temporary home in Gosford to play Cronulla on Sunday.
