Five-eighth Lee Martin was the hero for the Tahs, the veteran kicking a game-winning penalty goal with less than a minute on the clock to secure a 30-29 victory.

The win marked the second-straight week Tech had defeated a perennial finals contender, the side triumphing 17-14 over Shoalhaven last Saturday.

While they struggled throughout the early stages of the shortened season, Olsen said the way his team finished the year should act as a sign of what's to come.

"That's an awesome win," Olsen said. "To be one man down and still come back and get the chocolates in the last minute, we just toughed it out.

"The last month we've come together as a team. Last week coming back from 12-0 down, this week playing really well, it's a good way to finish the year.

"We'll have to sit down, reset, work on our plans, recruiting and getting our preseason going. For now, we won our last game, we beat Vikings who are a formidable opponent."

Tech started Saturday's match in control, three first-half tries handing the side a 17-5 lead at the break.

Vikings had the wind in the second half, however, and they made the most of it almost immediately, crossing just minutes after the resumption.

The try came immediately after Tech prop Ratu Kuitakeivuravura was sin binned for a high tackle, a decision that would eventually have a significant impact on the game.

Vikings were reduced to 14 men soon after, with the Tahs making their opponents pay and extending the lead back to 12.

The visitors weren't willing to lie down easy, however, Phil Green's side peppering the Tech try line in a bid to cut the margin.

The hosts conceded a number of penalties in quick succession, with the referee eventually turning to his pocket. The man to receive the yellow card was Kuitakeivuravura, a second yellow seeing him handed a red card with 20 minutes to play.

Vikings made the most of the extra man, Joel Diggins crossing from close range before Tommy Sawden produced a piece of individual brilliance to level the scores with 15 remaining.

Just when it looked like the visitors would hit the front, Aisake Tuevu flipped the field with an outstanding kick.

The representative fullback, then ensured the Tahs made the most of the opportunity, crossing to hand his side a 27-22 lead.

With a 14-man Tech side tiring, Vikings were soon back on the attack and the eventually broke through to hit the front 29-27 with just minutes to play.

The visitors couldn't close out the game, an error handing the Tahs one last chance to secure a wild victory.

That they did, Martin slotting the penalty goal from 25 metres out to win his side the match.

"It wasn't pretty at times, but we lifted today and got the result," Olsen said.

"It's one we would have lost a couple of years ago. Especially when we went down to 14 and they scored and got in front.

"I knew every time we got down here, we'd get points. Aisake gets a good kick, we score. Then we force a mistake, get an opportunity to steal the game and we were good enough to kick the goal."
