Although hundreds of students across the Illawarra, South Coast and southern Sydney region will still take part in the Book Week event on Wednesday, October 28.
The virtual literary workshop hosted by the CBCA NSW Illawarra South Coast Sub-Branch, will be headlined by high energy children's author Nat Amoore.
Amoore is the author of Secrets of a Schoolyard Millionaire (Australia's #1 bestselling debut Aussie children's fiction in 2019), and The Power of Positive Pranking (released in June 2020).
"The Literary Lunch is one of my favourite Book Week events. I had an absolute blast last year with my awesome table of South Coast kid-superstars and I leapt at the chance to be involved again," Amoore said.
"Last year we wrote and sang a rap together and laughed so hard I think apple juice came out my nose.
"I can't wait to get online with the curious kids this year and delve into their wild minds for a day of fun and creativity (and hopefully slightly less snorted apple juice)."
Authors and illustrators Sue Whiting, Kate Simpson, Karen Hendricks, Maxine Hamilton, Sam Squires, Dale Newman and Di Ellis will also take part in the Book Buzz to inspire students.
CBCA NSW Illawarra South Coast Sub-Branch president Kate O'Mealley said the event has gone online as a result of COVID-19 restrictions, but it means they can reach more students than ever before.
"Each year we hold a literary lunch event to mark Book Week, to inspire local students and foster their love of writing and reading. Going online in 2020 means we can still deliver a fantastic experience with some top-notch authors, while ensuring safe social distancing," O'Mealley said.
"Best of all, it means we're able to inspire more students and schools, as we're not limited to the number of seats we can fit in a venue, or the geographical location of schools."
More than 30 schools have already registered to attend the virtual event starting at 10am.
