The midfielder, who will represent United in the Illawarra Premier League grand final at Ian McLennan Park, is also one of two nominees for the 2020 George Naylor Medal.
The other nominee for the IPL's top individual honour is Cringila forward Toby Norval.
Tsovolos played every game for United this season and has played a key role in their charge towards the grand final, while Norval was the Lions' standout performer, scoring six goals in 11 games.
United boss Oli Vrtkovski is in the running for the Premier League's Coach of the Year Award. He is up against his opposite number on Sunday, Woonona coach Dan McGoldrick.
Sharks gloveman Jair Fernandez will compete with Coniston's Blake Horton for the IPL's Goalkeeper of the Year Award.
Bellambi's Vaughan Patterson has also wrapped up the IPL's Top Goal Scorer honour, after mustering nine goals this season.
All IPL individual award winners will be announced on Sunday.

Premier League Second Grade:
Player of the Year nominees: Bulli's Ben Lucas and Coniston's Connor Pontarolo.
Top Goal Scorer: United's Jordan Prentoski.
District League First Grade:
Neville Arrowsmith Medal - Player of the Year nominees: Oak Flats' Aden Wade and University's Doug Woodiwiss.
Coach of the Year nominees: Oak Flats' Nathan Minutillo and Fabian Capetta, and Unanderra's Rod Williams.
Goalkeeper of the Year nominees: Berkeley Sports' Tyrone White and Oak Flats' Ryan Franks.
Top Goal Scorer: Unanderra's Mark Picciolini.
District League Second Grade:
Player of the Year nominees: Unanderra's Save Treneski and University's Luke Foscarini.
Top Goal Scorer: Unanderra's Save Treneski.
Premier League Youth Grade:
Player of the Year nominees: Albion Park's Jack Scotcher and Olympic's Jordan Kizi.
Top Goal Scorer: Tarrawanna's Daniel Cunzolo.
