The 164-acre listing is located at 576-578 Avondale Road, Huntley, and sold for $3.7 million.
The property has had a handful of owners in about 200 years.
It had a price guide of $3.7 million to $3.9 million, and sold after being on the market for 92 days.
The 1000sqm, one-level home features six bedrooms and three bathrooms.
The selling agents were Belle Property Illawarra's Darren Kay and Nicole Kay.
Mr Kay said it was sold to an Illawarra buyer.
"The property had numerous inspections with local, interstate and overseas buyers, but eventually sold to local buyers looking to provide a private and tranquil environment for their young family to enjoy for many years to come," he said.
Prior to the sale, Tony Davey, a long-time builder/developer and businessman within the Illawarra, had owned the property for 40 years.
"It's had four owners in its whole existence," Mr Davey told the Mercury earlier this year.
The property is located on land that was initially granted to Dr Charles Throsby, an English-born surgeon, magistrate and explorer.
Mr Throsby was one of the first settlers in the Illawarra district.
In 1819, Mr Throsby discovered a pass between the Illawarra and Robertson districts and successfully drove a herd of cattle through it. "He got the original land grant, but he didn't come out here straight away - he sent people to work it," Mr Davey said.
The land was later passed on to Mr Throsby's relative, Charles Throsby-Smith.
"I live right on top of the mountain, so I actually own the top of two mountain ridges," Mr Davey said earlier this year.
"It's on the edge of two valleys, and I have 360-degree views to walk around the house... Views looking over the lake and the sea."
The property also features a detached cottage at the foot of the hill.
