The blaze covered almost 500,000 hectares in the Shoalhaven area, and destroyed 312 homes and damaged another 173.
Three people lost their lives.
To mark the anniversary of the fire, Shoalhaven City Council has released a short video titled Our Shoalhaven: 2019.
The video features local community leaders reflecting on the impact of the bushfire.
"For many the journey of recovery continues and it's important we stay connected and committed to supporting one another," Shoalhaven mayor Amanda Findley said.
"To mark the one-year anniversary we invited community leaders to share their experience and message of hope and resilience to the community."
Jan Frikken, from the Shoalhaven Multicultural Group, said she still cried when she remembered the strength of the community and how everyone came together to support one another.
Ulladulla Aboriginal Lands Council deputy chair Vic Channell echoed this sentiment.
"One thing that represents our community most, the one thing stands out to me, is the strength of people," Uncle Vic said.
