Grinners are on the lineup of the Illawarra's newest music festival at Stuart Park, Spring Loaded, which organisers say pays "homage to some of the country's most beloved festivals gone by including Big Day Out and Homebake".
"For me personally, a 14-year-old Phil would be frothing over this lineup, so I would be there with my bucket hat, my cargo pants, my Doc Martins, my chain wallet," he joked with the Mercury.
After success in Queensland, Empire Touring are bringing some of the best of Australian bands from the '90s and '00s on tour to Wollongong, Sydney, Cairns, Bribie Island, Adelaide, Darwin, Gosford, Perth and Victoria.
Each concert lineup is slightly different, but the NSW South Coast will enjoy the sounds of Tumbleweed, Grinspoon, You Am I, Regurgitator, Jebediah, Frenzal Rhomb, Screamfeeder, and Caligula lighting up the air between the escarpment and the ocean.
"I don't think You Am I, Regurgitator and Grinspoon ever really played that much together on the same bill," said Jamieson. "We always would be touring at the same time where they'd have like seven sold out Metros and we were doing one gig at the Annandale [Hotel]."
He said the fact these live acts were all still around and making music were testament to the quality of Australian guitar-based rock to be produced at that time.
Tickets go on sale to the public on March 24 at 10am through www.oztix.com.au, with presale tickets offered from March 18.
While the Illawarra was peppered with a number of smaller COVID-safe concerts at the end of 2020 and into this year, large-scale events are finally returning.
The Kiama Jazz and Blues Festival welcomed dozens of artists to their town earlier this month, with Wollongong set to host both Yours and Owls plus the Under The Southern Stars festivals in April.
