Professor Tim Flannery will lead a panel of expert speakers on a day which will also include local musicians, a screen printing workshop, free yoga and kids activities.
The Climate Camp Out runs from 11am, to bring awareness to the detriment of coal mining to the Illawarra's water catchment, and to call on the federal government to declare a climate and ecological emergency.
"Through creativity, action and play, local residents and concerned citizens will join together to demand the federal government declares a climate and ecological emergency and commits to zero net emissions by 2030," a spokeswoman for Extinction Rebellion Northern Illawarra said.
"We also want to see an end to coal mining in our local region beneath the water catchment, which not only threatens our climate, but our clean drinking water."
From 11am on Saturday April 17 community members are invited to settle in and camp out for the day, to bond as a community over this critical issue.
