The annual prize is awarded to the best subject painting, genre painting or mural project and was handed to Georgia Spain on Friday, an artist who is represented by Thirroul's Egg and Dart.
"Georgia is a rising star and we expect exciting things to follow as we present her solo exhibition, titled 'One to Another' in June and then follow that with Sydney Contemporary in September," gallery director Aaron Fell-Fracasso.
"It is a huge honour that this year Georgia Spain has been selected as the winner for the Sulman Prize and by the same token is a phenomenal milestone for the gallery."
