Last year was meant to be a landmark year for acclaimed singer-songwriter Archie Roach as it marked the 30th anniversary of his debut album Charcoal Lane, an album that depicted his experience as a stolen child, teenage alcoholic, seeker, lover and father.

What was meant to be his last ever national tour in 2020 was put on hold, but as restrictions come and go the singer is slowly making his way around the country with NSW the next state to get a taste of his songs and stories throughout August. The announcement follows a recent stunning series of performances through regional Victoria.
Anita's Theatre in Thirroul will welcome Roach on Saturday August 14 for an evening of reflection, laughs and good music
Tell Me Why is the title of the tour, his award winning memoir and companion album. It's an intimate, moving and sometimes confronting account of his resilience and strength, and also of a great love story.
"When I started off in music nobody had much of a clue about who I was and what I was writing about," Roach said. "I was considered a curiosity."
The tour will somewhat be like an extension of his YouTube series where he sits down at his kitchen table to discuss tales from his life, "yarns" with his high profile friends or highlighting the work of other wonderful First Nation's creatives.
"The kitchen table has always been a place of inspiration for me," he said. "It's a place where I've written most of my songs, drank many cups of tea, ate meals, played music whilst my children ran around making plenty of noise."
