Boaters using Lake Illawarra will find it easier to sail away with a new grant to improve the jetty around Ski Way Park.

The state government has provided $200,000 in funding to see that the area around the jetty is dredged.

"Dredging is needed in Lake Illawarra near the Ski Way Park boat ramp to improve access for all boaters," Local Government Minister Shelley Hancock said.
"Localised dredging from the toe of the boat ramp into the navigation channel will ensure there is sufficient space to accommodate larger boats, particularly at low tide."
The funding comes from the Transport for NSW's Boating Access Dredging Program, which is aimed at improving navigation of channels and entrances in NSW waterways, particularly in regional areas.
As well as improving lake access, the $200,000 will also cover the treatment and safe disposal of the material that is dredged up from Lake Illawarra.
As part of the funding deal, the project must be completed within 18 months.
