Becoming a signatory to the declaration also demonstrates the council's support for Australia's commitment to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
"This ties in very well with what Kiama Council is doing in addressing climate change, trying to reduce our net emissions to zero," mayor Mark Honey said.
The council recently adopted its corporate emissions reduction plan, which outlines a target of zero net emissions by 2031 for all operations, facilities and services.
This includes including an interim target of receiving 50 per cent of all of electricity from renewable sources by 2025.
Kiama Municipal Council is a founding member of the Climate Council's Cities Power Partnership, a network of councils in Australia committed to achieving zero emissions.
