Durant finished with 29 points and 10 rebounds for Brooklyn (6-3 record) while James Harden grabbed a triple double (13 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists).
Durant finished 12 of 27 from the field but still became the first player in Nets history to score at least 20 points in the first nine games of a season.
Harden also wasn't perfect, finishing with nine turnovers and 0-5 from inside the arc to become the fifth player in NBA history with a triple double and no two-point baskets.
LaMarcus Aldridge added 16 points for Brooklyn while Boomers skipper Mills had five points and four assists from just over 20 minutes court time.
Cade Cunningham had 17 points for hosts Detroit (1-8).
At Milwaukee, Julius Randle had 32 points and 12 rebounds to help the New York Knicks overcome an early 21-point deficit and upset the Bucks 113-98.
Derrick Rose had 23 points off the bench, and RJ Barrett added 20 to help the Knicks stun the defending NBA champions on their home court.
Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 25 points for Milwaukee, and Grayson Allen had a season-high 22.
At San Francisco, Jordan Poole scored 26 points and Stephen Curry had 19 as Golden State routed New Orleans 126-85 to improve to 7-1.
Jonas Valanciunas scored 20 points for the Pelicans who are 1-9 as they start the season without injured star forward Zion Williamson.
At Washington, Bradley Beal scored 17 points in the Wizards' 115-87 thumping of Memphis (5-4 record).
At Sacramento, Richaun Holmes had 23 points and a career-best 20 rebounds as the Kings made 22 three-pointers to roll past Charlotte 140-110.
At Minneapolis, Paul George had 21 points and 11 rebounds and Reggie Jackson scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half as Los Angeles Clippers overcame a 20-point deficit to thrash Minnesota 104-84.
At Orlando, Dejounte Murray had 20 points and 11 rebounds to help San Antonio beat the Magic 102-89.
At Portland, CJ McCollum scored 27 points, hitting five three-pointers, as the Trail Blazers beat Indiana 110-106 to snap a three-game losing streak.
And at Toronto, Darius Garland made a pair of free throws with 4.8 seconds remaining as Cleveland pipped the hosts 102-101 to snap the Raptors' five-game winning run.
