It also boasted home-grown UFC champion Alexander "The Great" Volkanovski, who was spotted welcoming punters and ringing the big gong itself.
The $1 million The Gong race was established in 2019.
With Illawarra Turf Club putting up a total of $10,000 in prizes for best dressed female, best dressed male and best hat you didn't need to pick a winner to come away a little better off - as long as you didn't overspend on finery, of course.
The Fashion on the Field competition at The Gong race day was organised by Pamela O'Brien, of Locopa Designs, who is also a judge.
Winners on the day were Sally Martin, in an outft by New Zealand fashion designer Mikhal Designs, and a Sovata hat.
Jason Crockett was judged the best dressed bloke in a custom made blazer from Canberra, and Erin Smith won in the millinery department with a hat from Miss Louise.
