Charity and community organisations across the Illawarra were given a much-needed funding boost from the IMB Bank Community Foundation on Monday.

The foundation announced support to 20 local groups including NeedAFeed, One Door Illawarra, Illawarra Flame Tree and Illawarra Wig Library. The foundation this year funded projects that seek to improve mental health and wellbeing in local communities as one in five Australians report high levels of psychological distress due to COVID-19.
"This year we have focused on the importance of volunteers and addressing local need as communities reconnect," said IMB Bank CEO Robert Ryan.
"We're supporting 65 projects, across a very diverse spectrum. It's positive news for many parts of the community who have endured a challenging 12 months".
The funding was announced at the first ever event in the IMB's new building on Burrelli Street, Wollongong. In total 65 organisations received funding, bringing the total funding from IMB Bank Community Foundation to $11m since 1999.
Initiatives to improve wellbeing, projects covering teen driver education and youth mentoring are set to benefit from increased funds this year.
Mr Ryan added: "Through grant funding, the foundation is humbled to play a small but important role. It's the people on the ground who make all the difference, they're the ones helping others during these challenging times."
