The Hawks were set to reboot their campaign against the league heavyweights after fortnight sidelined by a COVID outbreak within team camp.
It was also the first time coach Brian Goorjian would face-off with Boomers charges Chris Goulding and Matthew Dellavedova, but he'll now turn his attention to the 36ers after the NBL postponed two round-six games and altered two others in a continued fight against the Omicron outbreak.
Having been starved of action for the best part of three weeks, it will matter little to the playing roster or fans in what's a friendly 1pm Sunday time slot.
Adelaide's recent fortunes closely mirror the Hawks' having also dealt with COVID cases and postponements that have kept them out of action since December 18.
The Hawks-36ers clash was one of two rejigged match-ups, with the NBL postponing a further two round-six fixtures featuring Tasmania after the JackJumpers recorded 10 positive cases among players and staff.
The rest of the Hawks January schedule will see them host Sydney on Thursday and Perth two days later. They'll then face the Phoenix at home ahead of their second road trip to Brisbane on January 29.
How the club's three postponed home games will be made up is yet to be confirmed but it promises a heavy February, with the league scuppering plans to place the competition on hold through the Boomers World Cup qualifying matches against Chinese Taipei and Japan.

Goorjian confirmed this week that he won't coach the Boomers through those matches as initially planned as the Hawks face a crucial make-up schedule that could make or break their campaign.
The Hawks won't stand in the way of any players selected donning national colours, with Duop Reath a certain inclusion in a full-strength national squad, while Sam Froling is also a likely call-up through qualifying stages.
