Bulli Pass will be closed in both directions on Tuesday, weather permitting, to allow for emergency repair work to be carried out between Lawrence Hargrave Drive and the M1 Princes Motorway.
Transport for NSW said it plans to carry out geotechnical investigations and debris removal, and extend the existing concrete barriers to capture debris following recent rainfall.
If work is delayed due to wet weather - which is forecast, with a 90 per cent chance of rain - work will be carried out Wednesday between 9am and 3pm, again weather permitting.
Detours will be in place via Lawrence Hargrave Drive or via the M1 Princes Motorway and Memorial Drive.
Road users should plan their journey and allow up to 15 minutes of additional travel time.
Residents who live within the closure area will have access to their properties at all times under the guidance of traffic controllers travelling from Lawrence Hargrave Drive only.
Meantime, the Illawarra Highway between Yellow Rock Road and Jamberoo Mountain Road at Macquarie Pass will remain closed in both directions until repair works is complete.
Geotechnical inspections identified slope movement and extension of cracks in the road surface, after weeks of bad weather.
Monitoring and assessment work will be carried before repair starts on April 4, weather permitting.
The section of road will stay closed until work is complete, said Transport for NSW.
There are no current severe weather warnings current for the Illawarra from the Bureau of Meteorology.
