The world's No.1-ranked Test bowler was released from India's squad and given time off to rest, and in his absence India moved into an unassailable 3-1 lead with their five-wicket win in Ranchi.
Bumrah is India's joint leading wicket-taker in the series with 17 dismissals at an average of 13.64.
The next most prolific fast bowler from either side is England's James Anderson with eight wickets.
While India have guaranteed a series victory, there are still World Test Championship points up for grabs, so vice-captain Bumrah is almost certain to go straight back into the XI at a venue that has been touted as conducive for quick bowlers.
India will continue to be without batter KL Rahul, who according to a Board of Control for Cricket in India statement has gone to see specialists in London about a lingering quad complaint.
Rahul featured in the series opener in Hyderabad, making scores of 86 and 22, but missed the wins in Visakhapatnam, Rajkot and Ranchi.
The BCCI also confirmed seamer Mohammed Shami has also undergone surgery "successfully" on a right heel injury that prevented his involvement in this series.
Spin bowling allrounder Washington Sundar, who was an unused squad member for the second, third and fourth Tests, has been released to play for state side Tamil Nadu in next week's Ranji Trophy final.
