The Bellambi junior is back home during a break in the season for his club side FC Aesch in Switzerland and has taken up an invitation from Corrimal CC to play in their final Twenty20 pool match against Wollongong at North Dalton Park.
Chipperfield was a promising junior cricketer before launching a glittering football career which included two World Cup appearances and 68 international caps for the Socceroos.
Last week Football Australia recognised Chipperfield’s 12-year international career by inducting him into the Hall of Fame.
After playing junior football for Bellambi and also playing locally for Tarrawanna and Fernhill, Chipperfield first made his name for the Wollongong Wolves, helping the club win two National Soccer League championships.
He then joined Swiss club FC Basel, helping them win seven Swiss championships, plus playing regularly in the elite Champions League.
Chipperfield has always proudly called Wollongong home and returns regularly to see his family and friends.
Corrimal CC hope having ‘Chippers’ as a guest player will bring fans to North Dalton Park for the T20 clash next Saturday, December 22. The game starts at 3.15pm.
The Cougars are having a great season in their return to first grade and are the only unbeaten team after four T20 rounds and are guaranteed to play in the semi-finals on Australia Day.
