Save Our Ports community group members, Helen Wemyss, Alice Scott and Olive Rodwell, approached dozens of Illawarra residents and asked them to pose with their giant letter to Santa.
‘‘People were wonderful, we started off at the Sea Cliff Bridge and worked our way down to Port Kembla and just asked if people wanted their photo with our sign and most of them said yes,’’ Ms Wemyss said.
‘‘It’s our way of saying to Barry O’Farrell that it may be Christmas but we haven’t forgotten you and we are still fighting.’’
Ms Wemyss said her group couldn’t resist adding a request for Santa to put the premier on his naughty list.
‘‘What he did was naughty and wrong,’’ Ms Wemyss said.
Save Our Ports members have spent the past few months campaigning against the decision to hand the port over to private providers for 99 years, in a move the government says will free up funds for major road projects in the region.
Anti-lease campaigners were disappointed to see the government rush through legislation to enable the lease in November, however Ms Wemyss said they would not be giving up their fight in the new year.
