He was handed cash and ran down an alleyway next to the building.
Officers and a police dog searched the area but did not locate the man.
Police are now appealing for information about a man they believe can assist with investigations.
He is described as being about 183cm tall with a thin to medium build.
At the time he was wearing an orange-hooded jacket, jeans and white joggers.
His face was covered.
