Football Federation Australia has today announced the Young Socceroos Wollongong hit-out will be part of their final preparations for the under 20 World Cup in Turkey, starting June 21.
“This match will be a great opportunity for local football fans to see the Young Socceroos in action before they head to Turkey for the FIFA U-20 World Cup,” FFA chief executive David Gallop said.
“Both teams are looking to get some valuable match practice in before the tournament and I’m sure the long standing rivalry between Australia and New Zealand will also guarantee an exciting match for all.’’
The game, played on June 10, is a chance for Wollongong to show its worth to the FFA as an elite sporting city, as part of Football South Coast’s vision of having a future A-League team.
The Young Socceroos have been drawn in Group C with El Salvador, Colombia and host nation Turkey, with New Zealand in Group F along with Uzbekistan, Uruguay and Croatia.
