Angela Saville is one of the Illawarra's best known fitness professionals and this week she made time to visit Phoenix Hair, Central Road, Unanderra to add some extra highlights to her mane of natural coils to show her support for Highlights for Hope.
"I visit my hairdresser mostly for special occasions, and this is certainly a very special occasion - getting some extra colour to support Highlights for Hope. I am thrilled to be involved," she said.
As the proprietor of Any Time Fitness and Savvy Fitness, Angela is only too aware of the community's need to embrace the concerns of mental health, as she deals with so many who are facing the shut-down it brings with it that affects most of us, or someone very close to us, at one time or another.
"Physical fitness is medicine for the mind," she emphasised.
"My experience as a fitness professional puts me in touch with many people, who are dealing with depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. It is well recognised that fitness is one of the most important elements in the recovery - and stabilisation - of good mental health."
Savvy Fitness offers 22 personal trainers for outdoor programs - group routines or one-on-one for individuals with specific needs. Training activities extend south to Shellharbour and from Wollongong, north to Balgownie, Bulli and Thirroul, taking in the seaside beauty across the Illawarra.
Proprietor of Phoenix Hair Katrina Snell is a stunning example of someone who takes fitness seriously.
Running her busy salon, she is also a mother of two, and still makes time to include a regular exercise program. "It makes me feel great and I cope with my busy day so much better," said Katrina.
Katrina and Angela shared positive and common views on this new salon initiative to raise funds for the Light and Hope clubhouse in the Illawarra, so that it can remain operative for the two days a week it is open to members. They also discussed how both their professions play an important role in the well-being of mental health.
"Looking and feeling great go hand in hand," said Katrina.
"We pride ourselves on doing just that. It is very satisfying to know you have really made a client look and feel special. We offer a comprehensive range of services and products for hair, skin and beauty. We specialise in high fashion cutting, contemporary colouring and styling. No detail is overlooked."
I can personally vouch for this, as I was treated to an awesome shampoo and blow-wave by Katrina herself.
It was one of the best shampoos I have ever experienced and a beautifully executed blow-wave.
Angela's hair was straightened and the ends were tonged, which showcased her new highlights as a subtle contrast against the natural colour. "There is no doubt that a 'hair session' is just good therapy for really feeling good," said Angela.
